Jesus Heals a Paralyzed Man
When Jesus returned to Capernaum several days later, the news spread quickly that he was back home. Soon the house where he was staying was so packed with visitors that there was no more room, even outside the door. While he was preaching God’s word to them, four men arrived carrying a paralyzed man on a mat. They couldn’t bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, so they dug a hole through the roof above his head. Then they lowered the man on his mat, right down in front of Jesus. Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “My child, your sins are forgiven.” But some of the teachers of religious law who were sitting there thought to themselves, “What is he saying? This is blasphemy! Only God can forgive sins!” Jesus knew immediately what they were thinking, so he asked them, “Why do you question this in your hearts? Is it easier to say to the paralyzed man ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or ‘Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk’? So, I will prove to you that the Son of Man has the authority on earth to forgive sins.” Then Jesus turned to the paralyzed man and said, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and go home!” And the man jumped up, grabbed his mat, and walked out through the stunned onlookers. They were all amazed and praised God, exclaiming, “We’ve never seen anything like this before!” (Mark. 2:1-12)

Отож ще раз підтвердила Церква оцю невимовну таємницю: Бог втілився, поєднався навіки з людською істотою. Ми не покинені! Ми маємо дуже високе покликання – зростати в досконалості і Богоподібності. Ставати Божою Ласкою – і нашою співучастю в цьому процесі – святими, як Він Святий! Це реальне покликання. Нас саме до цього й закликав Господь Ісус.. (продовження на uocc.ca)

«Коли ж прийде Син Людський у славі Своїй, і всі Анголи з Ним, тоді Він засяде на престолі слави Своєї. І перед Ним усі народи зберуться, і Він відділить одного від одного їх, як відділяє вівчар овець від козлів. І поставить Він вівці праворуч Себе, а козлята ліворуч.» Ось так розпочинається сьогоднішня Євангелія Матвія “в якому Ісус Христос говорить про Страшний Суд та про вічну нагороду для праведних і вічну кару для грішних. Події Страшного Суду присвячена вся сьогоднішня богослужба. Оспівуючи перебіг Страшного Суду, вона намагається наповнити нас спасенним страхом, жалем за гріхи та вказати на необхідність добрих справ, передовсім справ милосердя.”

“[Коли він далеко ще був, його батько побачив його і переповнився жалем: і побіг він, і кинувсь на шию йому, і почав цілувати його!” Ось так, у Притчі Ісуса про Блудного Сина зустрів Батько свого сина. Він не чикав на те, щоб син добіг до нього, щоб сказати йому, чого він бажає, щоб потім мати над ним перевагу, щоб йому відповісти, або увійти до нього або відійти. Він побіг до нього. Не було жодного сумніву про те, що скаже він своєму синові чинити. Він привітав свого втраченого сина з розпростертими обіймами.

In today’s Gospel (Luke 18:35-43) we hear our Lord Jesus ask the blind man: “What do you want Me to do for you?” This question seems to be superfluous. Was it not obvious (especially to Jesus) that the man wanted to see? Of course, it was! However, his making the request was an important part of his healing. He had to express his need. He had to name what it was that he wanted of the Lord.

You’re invited to pray in solidarity with Ukraine officiated by Reverend Father Michael Pozdyk outdoors on the steps and grounds of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of St. Mary at 6:30 pm.
Father Michael will hold an approximate 25-minute “Molieben” service in honour of the ongoing crises and those suffering in Ukraine. Other invited guests may attend.

Please come 15-30 minutes in advance if you wish to purchase a candle. Candles available for purchase for a $5.00 cash donation. Proceeds will be donated to the Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Appeal.
The Government of Canada will match every donation made by individual Canadians to the Canadian Red Cross’s Crisis Appeal between February 24, 2022, and March 18, 2022, up to a maximum of $10 million (CAD). Donations will support those impacted by ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

At the executive board meeting we decided that we would have a virtual and drive-through basket blessing.
We will be observing the guidelines of numbers, social distancing and masks. We ask you not to come if you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19.
Join us for a pandemic friendly take on an Easter tradition. This outdoor, three-minute drive-through basket blessing will take place on the East side of the Holy Trinity Cathedral parking lot. Please enter the lane way via 10th or 11th Ave.
Feel free to bring traditional Easter basket foods. Pascha, babka, pysanky, hard-boiled eggs, chocolate and candy, butter, cheese, ham, green onions, sausage, horseradish, beets, salt and a candle. During basket blessings, please remain in your vehicle.
Please register for the drive-through basket blessing by calling the church office 604-876-4747 or the priest at 778-239-6252. You will be given your time window slot. If you are unable to come at your scheduled time, please notify the church office.
To reduce traffic congestion, drive through basket blessing will be on Saturday, May 1, from 2 PM to 4 PM and on Sunday, May 2, from 11 AM to 1 PM.

B.C.’s ban on social gatherings and events, including church worship, has been extended indefinitely, but Dr. Bonnie Henry has suggested planning could begin for resumption of faith services and other gatherings at the end of February
A PRAYER OF PROTECTION FROM CORONAVIRUS
O Lord our God, Who are rich in mercy and with careful wisdom direct our lives, hear our prayers and receive our repentance for our sins, bring an end to this new infectious disease, just as You averted the punishment of Your people in the past time. You Who are the Physician of our souls and bodies, grant restored health to those who have been seized by this illness raising them from their bed of suffering so that they may glorify You, O Merciful Saviour, and preserve in health those who have not been infected. By Your grace, O Lord, bless, strengthen, and preserve, all those who out of love and sacrifice care for the sick, either in their homes or in the hospitals. Deliver people in this city, in our country, and around the world from all illnesses and suffering, and teach us to value life and health as gifts from You. Give us Your peace, O God, and fill our hearts with unflinching faith in Your protection, hope in Your help, and love for You and our neighbor. For it is Yours to be merciful and to save us, O our God, and to You we ascribe glory: to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

«Господи, Боже наш, багатий милосердям і милістю, що Своїм мудрим Провидінням керуєш нашим життям, вислухай нашу молитву, прийми покаяння за гріхи наші, припини пошесть згубну, яка спіткала нас, як Ти і раніше припиняв згубні пошесті серед людей. Милосердний Спасителю, захисти здоров’я тих, хто на Тебе уповає. Лікарю душ і тіл наших, дай одужання тим, що хворіють, і підведи їх з ложа недуги та страждань. Благослови, Господи, укріпи і захисти Своєю благодаттю усіх тих, хто з благодійністю і жертовністю піклується про хворих вдома чи в лікарнях. Визволи людей в нашому місті (селі, монастирі), в нашій країні і по всьому світу від пошесті згубної, від хвороб і страждань та навчи нас цінувати життя і здоров’я як Твої дари. Дай нам, Боже, Твій мир і наповни наші серця непохитною вірою в Твій захист, надією на Твою підтримку і любов’ю до Тебе і наших ближніх. Твоє бо є, щоб милувати і спасати нас, Боже наш, і Тобі славу возсилаємо, Отцю, і Сину, і Святому Духу, нині і повсякчас і навіки віків. Амінь».

THURSDAY, January 14th – Divine Liturgy 10:00 am
MONDAY, January 18th – The Eve of the Theophany: 5:00 pm Festal Vespers with the Great Blessing of Water.
TUESDAY, January 19th – The Holy Theophany of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ: 9:30 am hours; 10:00 Divine Liturgy followed by the Great Blessing of Water.
